The Killing Joke is a Batman story featuring The Joker and written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland and color by John Higgins. The plot is by far one of the most important one in Batman history and consists of a possible origin of The Joker. People have praised this story calling it the Greatest Joker Story ever told.
“Easily the greatest Joker story ever told, BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE is also one of Alan Moore’s finest works. If you’ve read it before, go back and read it again. You owe it to yourself.” – IGN.com
I would agree. The Panels dont require words to convey their message and the story unfolds effortlessly. Its pure unadulterated Alan Moore. Perhaps the reason i like it also lies in the fact that this is quite believable. This story lingers in my mind and is something that easily jumps up for recollection. Batman cant exist without the Joker for he is the one who keeps him guessing. It also served as a influence for the now unforgettable role of the Heath Ledger’s Joker. If all this is not going to make you wanna read it, then you seriously are not a fan of good writing or Batman.
Writing this made we wanna re-read it. So off i go now.
